Your briefing for the Inca Trail trek will take place at 6:30 PM at the Alpaca Expeditions headquarters. You will meet your guide and fellow hikers during your briefing. We will use this time to register as well.

Accommodation: Tierra Viva Centro or similar
Meals: Not included

Your guide will pick you up at the lobby of your hotel in Cusco , at 8 am. You will be taken on a road that winds around the mountains north of Cusco. On the way, we will stop at a famous point known as El Mirador. From there, we will be able to see the Sacred Valley and gain an insight into Inca history. The Sacred Valley was one of the main settlement areas of the Incas. There is an unusual abundance of fertile plains in this high Andean area. You will also witness vast contour terraces and irrigation canals left behind by the Incas.

Later, we will go to the ruins of Pisac . Here, you will witness and learn about the Inca culture. You will see amazing stone art and impressive agricultural terraces. After exploring, we’ll return to the lower town of Pisac to stop at a bustling craft market. After spending some time walking the market looking for bargains, we will meet for lunch at a local Andean restaurant. This meal is not included in the tour, so if you prefer a different restaurant, just tell your tour guide.

After lunch, we will drive along the Urubamba River towards the town of Ollantaytambo . Once we arrive at Ollantaytambo, we will visit the ruins, an important Inca construction area, built during the heyday of the Incas. This is an extraordinary Inca site because you can find rock formations that represent the Inca god, Wiracocha.

We will spend the night in Ollantaytambo to start our Inca Trail early the next day.

Accommodation: Hotel Pakaritampu or similar
Meals: Breakfast at the hotel
Tickets: All Inclusive

Your short tour of the Inca Trailfrom Alpaca Expeditions to Machu Picchu begins with a 4 am pick up from your hotel. Next, we will go to the train station and depart on the 6:10 am train from Ollantaytambo. The path follows the Urubamba river until reaching Km 104, where we will begin our walk. Along the way you’ll see spectacular views of farmland, snow-capped mountains, and the mighty Urubamba River. The Urubamba River is one of the sources of the huge Amazon River, so it is very impressive to see. At 104 km (2000 m), we will begin our impressive trek. Once you’re off the train and ready to go, we’ll provide you with refreshments and take a group photo. Then we will leave to visit our first Inca site. We will give you a brief orientation on this historic Inca site, as well as a walking tour. Then we will start walking as we head to the Classic Inca Trail. We will have tremendous views of Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River and other surrounding Inca sites.

After walking for three hours, we will arrive at the most beautiful Inca site of the Wiñay Wayna (forever young) Inca Trail at 2600m/8500ft. Few people get the chance to see these elaborate water fountains, temples, and agricultural terraces. These provide a perfect opportunity to learn about the history of the Incas. The backdrop for this site is a spectacular cliff with beautiful mountains surrounding the area.

A few minutes of walking from there and you will arrive at the Alpaca Expeditions camp used by hikers who have chosen to do the Classic Inca Trail . Here you will enjoy a hot homemade lunch freshly cooked by the chefs of Alpaca Expeditions. You will also have the opportunity to refill your water and rest for a bit after you have eaten.

From Wiñay Wayna, we will walk to Puerta del Sol. This is where we will see the picturesque landscape of the famous Machu Picchu. After enjoying the once-in-a-lifetime views, we will begin our descent to Machu Picchu.

One of the many advantages of this trek is that by the time you arrive at Machu Picchu the day the travelers will have left. This leaves you the entire area to explore without interruption. After taking photos and exploring the area, we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes and head to your hotel. Then we will go to Indio Feliz for dinner (included). This restaurant is considered to have the best food in Aguas Calientes. After dinner we recommend you go to bed early to make the most of the next day.

Accommodation: Hotel la Cabaña or similar
Meals: Breakfast at the hotel, lunch and dinner
Tickets: All Inclusive

We will get up early to take one of the first buses and see the amazing sunrise at Machu Picchu . You will have a two hour guided walking tour by your private English speaking Alpaca Expeditions guide. After that, you will have time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Those who have tickets to Huayna Picchu will have time to climb the mountain, which takes approximately an hour and a half round trip.

After exploring, you can take a bus or walk to Aguas Calientes for a free afternoon. You will have to remember to take your train, which will leave that afternoon for Ollantaytambo. Once you arrive at the station in Ollantaytambo, we will be there to meet you and take you back to Cusco.

Accommodation: Tierra Viva Centro or similar
Meals:Breakfast at the hotel
Tickets:All Inclusive (except entrance to Huayna Picchu Mountain)

We will pick you up for the Rainbow Mountain trek at 4:00 am to 4:30 am from any hotel, Airbnb or hostel in Cusco. It will be a 2½ hour drive to the trailhead; we will arrive around 7am. Here at the trailhead, our chef will prepare a delicious breakfast including coffee, hot chocolate, tea, bread, fruit salad, eggs, and hot beverages. Cusco’s elevation is 3,300 m / 11,300 ft, and the trailhead called Phulawasipata is at 4,200 m / 14,300 ft.

Cusco weather is usually quite cold, and the trailhead is even colder, so it’s early in the morning. Be sure to bring a warm jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves.

After breakfast, we will hike for approximately 2 hours uphill to Rainbow Mountain range. At a slower pace it could be 2¾ hours, or if you’re really fit, fast and well acclimatized some people can do it in 1½ hours. The hike includes some short breaks where the guide will explain important information about the mountains and the geography of the area. You may have the chance to see some of the locals, including the llamas and alpacas that frequent this area.

The trail itself is quite wide and useful for those with vertigo or a fear of heights. The hike is best during the dry season as the trails are not paved. The trail can be a bit dusty and in the rainy season it can be slippery as it can be wet. However, with good waterproof walking shoes and trekking poles you will be fine. Here’s your chance to see why Rainbow Mountain has become an Instagrammer’s delight according to CNBC!

Upon arrival at the top of Rainbow Mountain, around 9 a.m. The summit stands at an elevation of 6,384 m / 20,944 ft, making it one of the highest mountains in Peru.

After giving you some time to take some treasured photos, your guide will tell you some interesting facts about this fascinating place, like why the colors? – And he will also share some details about the history of Inkan. A few last photos of this spectacular mountain and we will begin our descent. We do this a little differently than other groups. Instead of walking the same route as them, we walked to a viewpoint to see the Red Valley and continue our hike.

This valley is the icing on the cake, and many of our hikers say it’s even better than Rainbow Mountain! It’s about 2 1/2 hours downhill from Rainbow Mountain, to the end of the trail, which is close to where we started the hike. Here you will enjoy a fresh meal prepared by your chef, including cold drinks, appetizers, soup and the main course.
After lunch, it will be another 2½-hour drive to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel around 5:30-6:00 p.m.

Your guide will check with you on the next day’s activities.
